Correct installation of the sprayer gearbox is the single biggest factor in achieving the design service life. Follow the steps below, in order. Skipping or compressing any step usually shows up as oil leak, premature bearing failure, or noise within the first season.

How do I choose the right gear ratio for my tractor and implement?

Match the ratio to the rotor or output speed your implement is designed for. As a rule of thumb, divide your tractor PTO speed (540 or 1000 RPM) by the implement’s required input speed — that gives you the target reduction or step-up. For a boom sprayer / pump drive, ratios in the 1:1 to 1:1.46 range are most common. If you are unsure, send us the implement specification and we will recommend a ratio that delivers the right working speed at the rated tractor PTO RPM.

When should I specify a 540 RPM input vs. a 1000 RPM input?

540 RPM is standard for tractors below approximately 100 HP and remains the most common interface in farm fleets. 1000 RPM is preferred on larger tractors (100+ HP) and where the implement requires higher output shaft speed for the same gear ratio. Always confirm what your tractor’s PTO actually delivers before specifying — the gearbox must match the input source. The EP13 is available with both input options.
